High-quality ventilation for school shelters

The issue of air quality in shelters of children's educational institutions is more important than ever. In one of the secondary schools in Mykolaiv region (Ukraine), this issue has been solved using ventilation equipment from Vents. A Vents VUTR 600 VE EC A21 air handling unit will be installed here in the near future, which was donated to the school by Ventilation Systems.

The village of Chornomorka, located in Ochakiv district of Mykolaiv region of Ukraine, borders on the front line and therefore often comes under Russian shelling. To ensure the safety of local schoolchildren during their studies, it was decided to modernize the basement of the school, turning it into a shelter. Since there are no windows in the underground room, it became necessary to install a ventilation system that would provide children and teachers with sufficient air exchange during their stay in the shelter. Ventilation Systems responded to this problem and provided the school with a powerful air handling unit with heat recovery Vents VUTR 600 VE EC A21.

This ventilation device has a number of advantages that make it the optimal solution for educational institutions. Firstly, it has a high air flow (up to 670 m3/h). The unit also has low power consumption due to the use of energy-efficient EC motors and a high-efficiency (up to 89%) rotary aluminium heat exchanger, which can operate at fairly low air temperatures with no need for additional electric heating.

Secondly, the inside of the unit casing is insulated with a 40 mm thick layer of mineral wool, which ensures its quiet operation. The noise level of the unit during operation is only 35 dBA, which will not disturb children and adults during their stay in the shelter.

Thirdly, thanks to two G4 and F7 filters, the air entering the shelter will be purified from various pollutants, such as insects, dust, fluff, plant spores, pollen and other allergens.

It is worth emphasizing the ease of operation of this unit. The device is equipped with a modern automation system that makes it possible to control ventilation using a smartphone and the Vents AHU mobile application installed on it. This is especially convenient in the case of ventilation of a shelter where people stay on a regular basis. The control system makes it possible to remotely switch the unit on/off and increase/decrease the air flow depending on the presence of people in the protected room.

Unfortunately, underground shelters have become an integral part of school life in Ukraine today. However, it is our job to make sure that children and teachers are as comfortable as possible in these protective rooms.
