State-of-the-Art Equipment for a Revolutionary New School

When a new school opens in Kyiv, it hardly ever makes the news. However, when a recently opened school heralds a radical change to the conventional education system to the point of turning it upside down it makes quite a stir. "Liko-School" introduces a completely new format of general education for children. Besides teaching reading and writing skills this school aims for an all-round development to become the springboard into the adult life of a successful and fulfilled achiever.

These challenging goals are realized by a synergy of a special curriculum for day-long involvement, exciting classroom and out-of-class activities, healthy meals served five times a day and a wide selection of clubs to best suit each child's interests. Among other things a great deal of attention has been given to students' hygiene ensured by a liberal allocation of wash basins and individual showers as well as the work of a well-manned cleaning team.

The education park was designed to provide all the means for healthy and balanced development of children. In addition to the above-mentioned assets "Liko-School" has a mini zoo, an interior garden, a radio studio, a gym, a ballet studio and many other facilities to keep the children busy and entertained.

However, in order to live up to the high standards such facilities must be complemented with a modern HVAC system to ensure year-round comfort for the students and the staff.

Microclimate becomes ever so important as children spend their entire day at school, and ignoring this fact could be detrimental to the schoolchildren's health. This is why our department of integrated engineering design solutions took such an active part in the design of a bespoke ventilation system to address all the needs of "Liko-School".

This project accounted for all the specific features of the education park to ensure maximum comfort of the students while learning at having fun. In particular, VENTS designed and installed an energy-saving ventilation system which meets the strict EU standards.

The comprehensive automatic unit control system designed specifically for this project integrates all the ventilation equipment with the engineering system of the building. This enables remote monitoring and control of the ventilation system operation and on-the-fly adjustments depending on the situation. For example, if the lesson attendance is only twenty persons – not forty – the intelligent supply and exhaust system automatically calculates the necessary operation parameters to maintain a pre-set level of temperature and humidity in the classroom while keeping energy consumption to a bare minimum.

The ventilation systems of "Liko-School" in based on a range of equipment from various model families. These are VCUN, VKM, VKPF and TT series fans with the air flow capacity up to 19000 m3/h, VUT 3000 PW EC, VUT 2000 PW EC and MPA 1200 W series air supply and exhaust units of up to 4000 m3/h and AirVents (AV04-AV09) modular air handling units producing up to 9000 m3/h.

The fact that VENTS both supplied its products and was directly involved in the mounting supervision, installation and test runs of the equipment provides extra assurance of seamless integration of the ventilation system with the building infrastructure. Such an approach guarantees smooth operation and lasting performance for years to come.
