The production equipment fleet of "Ventilation Systems" has received a new addition which is quite unique. The metal processing shop now benefits from the installation of a new uncoiling, straightening and shearing line. The new production line is a bespoke assembly designed and built by Fabrica Ferraria according to the technical specifications provided by Vents.
The line is tasked with the fabrication of blank stock from sheet metal coils. It includes an array of machinery forming a process line for uncoiling, straightening, and transverse shearing of sheet metal. The major components include a control system based on Schneider Electric industrial electronics, unwinding units with coil cars, a collector, a gauge table, a feed assembly, a shearing machine, and a hydraulic power unit. The rated capacity of the equipment is 0…20 m/min while the sheet metal feed speed is set via the production line control system. The shearing precision is ±0.1 mm. The production line is controlled and serviced by just one operator.
The new line utilizes four de-coiling machines which supply uncoiled sheet metal to other process lines of the metal processing shop. Each line is provided with a hydraulic coil cart which lifts and loads new coils onto the spindle automatically without involving the operator. Thanks to four feed stations the coils are fed onto the spindles of the uncoiling machines without interrupting the production process which minimises downtime. This highly flexible solution also enables seamless switching between sheet metal of varying composition and thickness.
The new uncoiling, straightening and shearing line allows to automate sheet metal operations and improve their precision. Continuous operation and high precision help maximise output capacity and the quality of the finished product. Therefore, the commissioning of the new line marks yet another important step for VENTS and a significant milestone in upgrading the company's production facilities.
