VENTS completes a unique one-off project

Being a renowned supplier of bespoke ventilation equipment, "VENTILATION SYSTEMS" has recently completed yet another one-off air handling unit project designated AirVENTS AV65. The order came from the capitol's business centre MERX.

According to Lavr Kotelkov,  the Head of complex Climatic Engineering and Design Solutions Department of VENTS, the AirVENTS AV65 unit is quite unique due to its extraordinary dimensions and performance. The unit measures about 8 m long, 3.6 m wide and 4.3 high fully assembled. The total weight is approximately 7,700 kg. The air supply capacity is 55.5 thousand m3/h while the air extraction capacity is 50 thousand m3/h.

The AirVENTS AV65 air handling unit is indended for general dilution ventilation of the vast spaces of Merx business centre in Kyiv. The facility floor area provided the biggest challenge for the designers and engineers both in terms of the unit size and configuration. "All the unit components such as the three-circuit Freon cooler, the rotary heat exchanger, the electric heating section, the control board etc. are extremely large in size. This is the all-time first experience for our company", says Sergey Omelchenko, Head of Engineering Service of VENTS.

The oversize dimensions of the AirVENTS AV65 AHU presented certain challenges in transportation and installation as well. "The huge blocks produced considerable wind drag which made every step of the lifting work extremely difficult as soon as the unit was out of the company gate. For example, we had to assemble the unit at the very edge of the building roof requiring our people to proceed with extreme care and attention to safety. Strong gusts of wind prevailed during the assembly of the second tier of the unit. We also had to learn from the first-assembly of a 4 m rotor. Despite all the challenges and the weather we did manage to ensure high quality of the assembly work and complete the installation in time", says Sergey Omelchenko.

However, it is not only the very large equipment size that makes this project very unique. According to Lavr Kotelkov, this is the first time the company supplied the AirVENTS AV65 pre-assembled with the rotor.  "The assembly of such a complex unit required utmost dedication of our staff who performed to the very best of their ability. It must be said that in Europe such work is only trusted to highly experienced engineers and specialized installation companies while we managed to assemble and install the unit with the help of our young specialists. I am extremely proud of this achievement which will definitely go down in our company's history", stressed Mr Kotelkov.

At the moment the AirVENTS AV65 AHU is completely assembled. In the next few days our engineers will complete start-up, adjustment and electrical installation work, install the control board wiring and run individual tests before the unit is handed over to the client's operations department.
