Vents continues to introduce automation into its welding works

Fabricated metal products workshop is one of the company leading divisions in terms of production capacities retrofitting pace and implementation of a state-of-the-art processing machinery. We have already written many times about the commissioning of new turret punch and sheet bending presses, automatic panel bending machines, laser and plasma metal cutting machines and other machines and machining centres. This list would not be complete without mentioning another high-tech piece of welding equipment.

These are new automatic longitudinal welding machines. The introduction of these machines stemmed from the need to automate welding of longitudinal joints of shells made of the metal sheets and thus improve production capacity and quality of welding works. The equipment is predominantly used to manufacture casings for VPVO pressurization fans, VDO smoke extraction fans and other ventilation units, the casings of which have welding joint length up to 1200 mm.

Automatic longitudinal welding unit consists of a dedicated machine tool manipulator that allows for precise assembling and holding of products in place via special pneumatic clamps, and a welding unit manufactured by the Fronius Austrian company. The unit allows performing welding works utilizing TIG, MIG/MAG methods, as well as flux welding. CNC controller with color sensor screen allows selecting different welding programs and controlling main welding process parameters. The unit also has a heat removal system in the form of a copper pad that allows minimizing distortion of workpieces and improving structure integrity of welding joints and weld-affected zones. The copper pad has a longitudinal groove that facilitates forming of a temper bead, which strengthens welding joints.

The new automatic longitudinal welding units ensure high rate of welding works, maximum precision and uniformity of final welding joints, has multiple operating modes that can be configured for different materials and metal sheet thickness, and it is easy to operate and maintain. Therefore, all these advantages allow manufacturing products with the best possible quality of welding joints.
