Infrastructure project of national importance
Mykolaiv water pipeline is a large-scale infrastructure facility, which was designed and built by the Autostrada company by order of the State Agency for Infrastructure Restoration and Development of Ukraine. The need to implement the project arose after the Russian troops destroyed the Dnipro-Mykolaiv water pipeline, leaving hundreds of thousands of residents in southern Ukraine with no centralized water supply system for over three years. The water pipeline was an important step in taking the city out of the humanitarian crisis. The new system’s total length is 67.8 km, and the construction costs are estimated at ca. 6.2 billion hryvnias. Once operational, it will supply 120,000 m³ of drinking water per day to the residents of Mykolaiv and another 50,000 m³ for agricultural needs, including irrigation in Nova Odesa and surrounding areas.
Requirements and limitations

The project was to be implemented within a tight deadline and required rapid installation of ventilation equipment amid intensive construction works. It was necessary to provide effective smoke removal in the maintenance rooms of pumping stations, as well as ventilation under high heat loads caused by pumping and electrical equipment. Automatization and a flexible equipment control system were an important requirement, enabling the customer to adjust the ventilation’s air flow based on temperature, pressure, smoke concentration and other parameters.
Ventilation solution for smoke exhaust
Eleven centrifugal roof smoke exhaust fans VENTS VKDV-K2-800-6D/4-K-U1-600/2-Zn with vertical air discharge. These provide effective smoke and stale air removal, which is especially important in the event of an emergency. The fan casing is made of galvanized steel, which makes the equipment resistant to weather conditions and has a ensures its long service life. For ease of installation, 11 mounting curbs SM-VO-0132-710/800 with back valves were used: in normal operation mode, they prevent air from flowing into the room, and in the event of a failure, they automatically open to ensure that the system works properly.
Modern fans and heating units VENTS
The facility is equipped with centrifugal roof fans with horizontal air discharge of the VENTS VKH EC series: specifically, the models VKH 225 EC, VKH 355 EC, VKH 450 EC, VKH 500 EC and VKH 560 EC. The models are equipped with EC motors, providing high air flow, low noise and energy efficiency. The motor is controlled with an external 0-10 V signal (adjustment available).
Vents VKM 125 are centrifugal inline polymer-coated steel fans. The high-powered AC-motor is equipped with integrated automatically resetting heat protection. To ensure accurate performance, safe operation and lower noise, each turbine undergoes dynamic balancing.

Vents AOE 15 — air heating unit with an electric heater designed for large premises. It consists of an axial fan and electric heater in a steel polymer-coated casing. The fan power is 140 W. The unit is equipped with an external rotor AC motor and integrated automatically resetting heat protection. The electric heater has two thermostats: the main one (automatic reset at +50 °С) and an emergency one (manual reset at +90 °С). The advantages of the AOE model include high heating capacity, rapid air heating, zoning / variable heating modes and lower investment costs compared to water heating. A UET-15D automation system with a thermostat TSTD-1-300 and a remote control was used to control the unit. The automation system controls air temperature by adjusting the heater’s operating time, controls the fan speed and switches power off in case of an emergency.
Implementation results
The ventilation equipment in place fully meets the technical specifications of a critical infrastructure facility and provides reliable, energy-efficient and automated operation of air circulation, smoke exhaust and heating systems. By using ventilation with EC and AC motors, centralized control system and automatic controllers, the customer got flexible control, optimized power consumption, and lower operating costs for the ventilation system. The comprehensive solution made it possible to rapidly provide stable air circulation in maintenance rooms of pumping stations, which is crucial for uninterrupted operation of the equipment and general safety of the facility.
